10 kg of CO₂ emissions per kg of product... okay, but what does that actually mean?

We know we need to measure CO₂ emissions—but does a figure like 10 kg per kg of product mean anything to you or your customer?
Is that a lot or a little, good or bad?

It is precisely this lack of clarity that makes it difficult to make sustainable choices transparent. The Carbon Print-Score® solves this problem: it translates emissions into a clear A through E rating. This finally makes CO₂ emissions understandable—for everyone.

Why the

Carbon Print Score®

Transparency at the product level

Shows at a glance how sustainable a specific product is. Based on certified data and processes—validated and clear to everyone.

Trust from customers and partners

A visual, independent label (A through E) on your product enhances the credibility of your sustainability claims. No empty promises—just hard facts and evidence, with no greenwashing!

Distinctive & Commercially Strong

Stand out in tenders and increase your chances of winning new customers with a clear, measurable, and visible sustainability label at the product level—this will make you a true pioneer in your market. It’s a win-win for your business and the environment.

What exactly is the Carbon Print-Score®?

The Carbon Print-Score® is the new label that reveals the actual CO₂ emissions of printed materials and products. Just like the Nutri-Score for food, this label shows at a glance how sustainable a specific product is—from books to packaging to posters.

The score (A through E) is automatically generated based on data from the CO₂ & Energy RI&E and ClimateCalc, two government-recognized tools that guarantee the exclusion of greenwashing. This makes it the first standardized and independent method in the graphic media sector to provide CO₂ transparency at the product level. The label may be used on both quotes and finished products.

Whether you’re working on sustainable procurement or want to give your customers insight into their environmental impact, the Carbon Print-Score® lets you demonstrate, in measurable terms, just how eco-friendly your product is.

How the Carbon Footprint Score Works

In this practical tutorial, we’ll show you step by step how to generate a CO₂ label.

Scientifically and independently substantiated

The Carbon Print-Score® is based on a scientifically validated methodology developed by the independent certification body SCCI. This method makes it possible to quantify the actual CO₂ emissions of specific (print) products in a transparent and measurable way.

The Service Center is the leading expert in the Netherlands that can assist organizations in implementing this methodology for the Carbon Print-Score®. We ensure that the calculations are performed correctly and that the score can be used responsibly in customer communications and tenders. This allows you to get the most out of your sustainability efforts.

To ensure the complete integrity of the data and the independence of the label, the certification scheme is audited annually by Blue Terra’s experts.

Combine wisely for maximum accuracy

The Carbon Print-Score® combines the power of two leading tools: ClimateCalc and the CO₂ & Energy RI&E. While ClimateCalc focuses on paper and cardboard substrates, the CO₂ & Energy RI&E also provides insights into other materials and the energy component of your business operations.

By intelligently linking data from both sources, you get a comprehensive, validated CO₂ emissions figure for each product. This allows you to assign an objective rating (A through E) to every printed product—from packaging to promotional materials—based on its actual environmental impact.

An added benefit: the CO₂ & Energy RI&E also makes it easy for you to comply with the energy-saving requirement. And thanks to the user-friendly interface, you can handle this quickly and efficiently at

. Companies that use Xgram and are also ClimateCalc-certified can now easily generate a Carbon Print Score within the Xgram environment using the API.
